Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos described Julen Lopetegui’s departure as their biggest defeat of the season

The Spanish coach was shown the exit door at the Santiago Bernabeu this week following Sunday’s 5-1 El Clasico loss to rivals Barcelona.

The likes of former Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola have since come out in support for Lopetegui with Kross the latest to join in.

“The biggest defeat for players is when the coach has to go,” Kroos wrote on Twitter.

“Especially in this case because he is a great coach and great person. Thanks Julen!”

Real are ninth in La Liga with just 14 points from 10 games and have lost four of their previous six matches.

Real Interim boss Santiago Solari has named his first squad ahead of tonight’s Copa del Rey clash with UD Melilla.
