Takefusa Kubo reveals he had transfer offers from several clubs but Villarreal seemed the right choice for his development.
Real Madrid’s Takefusa Kubo enjoyed an impressive breakthrough during his loan spell at RCD Mallorca in the 2019/20 season.
Kubo notched up four goals and as many assists, but he was unable to prevent his side from getting relegated from La Liga.
His parent club, as a result, decided against allowing him to spend time at Son Moix beyond this season with the understanding that it would hinder the youngster’s development.
It was rumored that as many as 30 clubs were interested in the Japanese winger, with high-profile names such as Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain also linked.
However, it was recently confirmed that the 19-year old has completed a season-long loan move to Villarreal.
“It’s the news, some of it is true and some of it isn’t. There were other offers, but this was the best and that’s why I’m here,” Kubo told during his Villarreal presentation.
“The intention is to only talk about Villarreal. I’m not thinking about anything else. I am 100 percent at the service of Villarreal and I hope it will be a great year.”
“I’m willing to play anywhere, except as a defender or goalkeeper,” he added, jokingly.
