There are reports emerging from Spain that while there is a growing confidence La Liga will resume soon, this may be behind closed doors until 2021.
Spain was one of the worst-hit countries in Europe by the coronavirus pandemic. La Liga was shut down early on in the crisis.
It now appears that clubs and the Royal Spanish Football Federation is confident of resuming matches sooner rather than later. However, there are reports that this will be behind closed doors for the remainder of the calendar year.
According to ESPN, clubs, broadcasters and the league are looking at their options for fans given the extent of the situation. This follows the comments of Irene Lozano president of Spain’s National Sports Council.
“I’m optimistic about the return of football, without spectators.”
“It will be very difficult to bring fans back this year.”
“Obviously it will be hard to have large gatherings of people until a vaccine is available.”
“We’ll keep looking at it as the pandemic develops.”
