Alexandre Lacazette says Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Arsenal’s best player so far and is hoping he stays at the club.
Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette feels his teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s importance in the squad is often underestimated.
The Gabonese international, who stands level with Jamie Vardy in the Premier League golden boot race with 17 strikes, has been of the most consistent performers for the Gunners this season.
The 30-year old’s contract expires in 2021. Still, there are no signs of a fresh deal happening any time soon.
Talks have emerged that Aubameyang is on his way out of the Emirates as of late. Earlier, Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal also openly expressed their interest in signing him.
But teammate Alexandre Lacazette is not looking to part ways with Aubameyang any time soon.
“He’s one of the best or maybe he’s been the best player this season for Arsenal. Obviously I hope he’s going to stay,” the Standard quotes Lacazette.
“I think people should talk more about Auba and what he is doing in the game because he is more than a goalscorer. He is working a lot for the team defensively and making space for the other striker – Eddie [Nketiah] or me.
“I think if we start to win more trophies, people will talk more about what he is doing for the team.”
