Derby County owner, Mel Morris admits that it is only a matter of time before Chelsea announce the appointment of Frank Lampard.
Frank Lampard could be announced as Chelsea’s manager very soon according to Mel Morris. The Derby County owner says that the delay was due to Lampard being away on holiday.
The iconic Chelsea midfielder is set to become the club’s new manager after an impressive debut campaign with the Rams. Lampard almost guided the team to Premier League promotion.
While Mel Morris didn’t want to see the back of his manager, the club’s owner knows that he cannot hold on to a man who’s definitely one of the most promising managers in English football today. The former England international is expected to replace Maurizio Sarri at the helm and will be looking to add some stability to the team.
Speaking to talkSPORT, as reported by Daily Mail, Morris said that the club is also looking to find a suitable replacement.
‘Frank and I discussed this eventuality. Frank and Chelsea need to have the time now to finalise the transaction between them.
‘In fairness, Frank was away on vacation and didn’t come back until Friday – that was a big factor.’
‘We’re very keen to get something sorted out in time for the trip to America.’
Derby County have already start training for the next season without a manager.
‘The first few days of pre-season training will be focused on fitness training and will continue as planned under the guidance of the fitness, medical, conditioning and sports science teams at the club’s Training Centre.
‘On the assumption that Frank will reach an agreement with Chelsea to become their new manager, the club shall step up its efforts to find a replacement manager.’
It is definitely going to be a task for the club to find the right manager. In one year, Lampard achieved quite a lot for the Rams and would be a tough act to follow.
