Frank Lampard has insisted that just like any other player Kepa Arrizabalaga is also prone to committing errors.
Chelsea dropped more points as they suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Newcastle United in their last Premier League outing.
The match looked all but tied until the end but Isaac Hayden scored from a header to turn the game in the Magpies’ favor. Hayden’s shot was met by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s gloves on its way in but the Chelsea goalkeeper was unable to keep it out costing his side the loss.
Kepa, who became the most expensive goalkeeper in history after Chelsea paid €80 million for him, is also the goalkeeper with the worst save percentage in the league.
But Frank Lampard has come out in support of his number-1. Lampard disregarded Kepa’s criticism claiming that he is still young who is working towards improving himself.
“I will always defend all the players and if there are individual errors then players are the first ones to put their hands up and goalkeepers should be as well,” said Lampard as per Independent.
“It is an isolated and difficult job because the spotlight is on you individually. At times he has made good saves for us this season and at times he’ll say he wants to do better.
“He is still relatively young as a goalkeeper, he wants to improve, as he should do. He can improve as much as all the team and we can improve.”
