Frank Lampard’s impact at Chelsea has left Bayern Munich counterpart Hansi Flick impressed ahead of Saturday’s showdown.

Chelsea appointed Lampard last summer as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement, despite his limited experience. He’s since recorded 29 wins, 8 draws, and 17 defeats in 54 matches.

The Blues also sealed a top-four finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League football for next season. Although last weekend’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal was disappointing.

Chances of Lampard ending the season with silverware are now small as Chelsea are 3-0 down on aggregate to Bayern Munich in their last-16 tie in the Champions League.

Despite the prospect of a low-key ending, however, Flick had nothing but praise for the 42-year-old.

“I can say Lampard has been doing an extraordinary job with Chelsea,” said the Bayern boss, according to Goal.

“They’ve managed to qualify for next season’s Champions League through the Premier League and they’ve been pretty successful after the restart.

“I like the way they play and how they’ve performed.”

Of course, Chelsea’s transfer ban hindered Lampard and cost him the chance to replace departed star man Eden Hazard.

But the Blues boss found a way around the problem by turning to the young players at his disposal and has now convinced Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to join for next season.

Flick added: “It was a difficult situation when he started.

“But at the end of the season, he really performed an extraordinary season with his team.”
