Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is reportedly lining up a move for Manchester City’s John Stones to solve his team’s defensive difficulties.

Lampard requested the signings of the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, and the recruitment team has delivered.

Chelsea are now in the process of finalizing a deal to bring in Kai Hevertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Talks between the sides are in an advanced stage, and the German prodigy should become a Blue as soon as Bayer’s Europa League campaign is over.

But, the English tactician has no interest in putting the brakes on Chelsea’s spending spree anytime soon.

According to the Express Sport, Lampard has identified John Stones of Manchester City as his next transfer target.

A leaky defense that shipped more goals than any other Premier League side from the upper half of the table has put the former midfielder on red alert.

Despite finding himself on the fringes of the Manchester City squad this season, Stones hass been chosen by Lampard to shore up Chelsea’s defensive woes.

After enduring an injury-hit career at the Etihad, the 26-year-old will be available for just over £20million.

That is, however, a considerable markdown compared to the £47million City shelled out to take him away from Everton in 2016.

After recording only 12 Premier League starts in 2019/20, Stones could find his first-team chances further reduced next season.

Pep Guardiola has grabbed the signature of Nathan Ake and is looking to add Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly to his ranks.

In such circumstances, the English defender would have to settle with playing second fiddle. A scenario, Lampard is determined to benefit from.
