Frank Lampard insists Chelsea are not interested in taking any further part in the January transfer window.
Chelsea were reported to be eyeing a late move for Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
32-year old Dries Mertens has been one of the key players for Napoli this season. And with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Chelsea were looking to lure Mertens to the Stamford Bridge in the hopes of lightening the goalscoring burden for Tammy Abraham.
But Frank Lampard has announced that Chelsea will refrain from signing players in what is little left of the transfer window.
“No,” Lampard bluntly replied when asked about a possible signing of Dries Mertens.
Olivier Giroud, who lost his place in the squad under Lampard, was also reported to be looking his way out. But, as per the Evening Standard, the Blues boss insisted that Giroud will remain at the club.
“We all know there has been interest. I’ve sat here at every press conference and said ‘If it’s right for Olivier, for myself and the club’ and he’s been impeccable in that period.
“I’ve got huge respect for him as a player. The answer again is no, as in will he leave? No. The window is 95% shut for us.”
