Frank Lampard has called for the Chelsea board to extend Willian’s contract with the club.
After Eden Hazard’s departure before the start of this season, the pressure was on Willian to take charge as one of the most senior players.
During Hazard’s time with the Blues, Willian was given a substitute role. But the Brazillian looks to be back at his best, establishing himself as one of the key players for Lampard.
The 31-year old earned the man of the match in his last game. Willian is tied to Chelsea until the beginning of the winter transfer market. But Frank Lampard wants to get the Brazillian’s services for a few more years.
“I can’t get involved in the money, that’s up to the club. But I think everyone sees I’m relying on him. And I love him at this football club,” Lampard told the club’s official website.
“When I looked at him at the start of the season, I saw him being huge for me and the way we want to play.
“The off-the-ball work he’s done is an absolutely outstanding example for Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic and other young wingers who think the only part of the game is going past people and crossing or shooting.
“He does the other side brilliantly, with absolute humility. So he’s been a joy and one of the experienced players that’s really helping the young boys.’
