Newcastle United captain, Jamaal Lascelles says that there is no one to blame but the club’s players for the 5-0 beating at the hands of Leicester City.
Jamaal Lascelles and Newcastle United were given a lesson in football humiliation by Leicester City courtesy a 5-0 thumping. This was a game where the Magpies literally offered no resistance and put out a display that let down not only the staff but also the travelling supporters.
It was a completely spineless performance from a team that actually has a lot of talent. And Lascelles, the Newcastle captain, was visibly angry and furious at the manner of the defeat and went towards the travelling fans after the game to apologize for the performance.
Speaking to Sky Sports, as reported by The Daily mail, the defender said that Isaac Hayden’s expulsion was not the reason behind the thumping.
“(It was) terrible from the boys,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘(It’s) No one’s fault to blame but ourselves. We still had 10 men on the pitch. Leaking in five goals is not good enough. It’s not acceptable.
“We do need to look at ourselves in the mirror. I don’t think I have been here and conceded five goals. You at least have to make it hard for them.”
“Just the way we (Newcastle United) conceded the goals. It’s never happened (before). The boys do care, and obviously a man down is a disadvantage but you can still roll your sleeves up and we didn’t do that.
“It’s always going to be hard with 10 men but you have to do the simple things. It’s just not good enough. I don’t want to say we gave up but we need to sit down because it’s not acceptable.”
“We will kick ourselves about this game and the gaffer won’t let have our heads down too much. We will look back on it but it won’t affect us. That’s between the managers and the player.”
Newcastle now play Manchester United next Sunday.
