Laurent Koscielny is eager to leave Arsenal this summer and in a bid to force through a move, has chosen not to report for training.
Arsenal are in a pickle after Laurent Koscielny rejected the idea of showing up for preseason training. The Frenchman is nearing the end of his cycle at the club and is reportedly getting a lot of interest from France.
Despite missing out on World Cup glory for France, Koscileny still has several suitors. At 33 and after 9 seasons in London, the defender is eager to seek a fresh challenge.
According to English media, Koscielny has made it clear that he doesn’t want to stay with Arsenal any longer and wants to return to France. It was reported earlier that the former Lorient man wanted the club to free him from his contract based on his near decade long services.
However, the Gunners want to generate funds through a potential sale and in a statement, expressed their disappointment.
“Laurent Koscielny refused to travel to the United States with the team for the preseason tour. We are very disappointed at Laurent’s actions which go against our instructions. We hope to solve this problem and will not comment further at the moment,” the statement read as reported by Foot Mercato.
Kosielny has decided to confront the club’s management. With just one year left on his contract the Frenchman was expecting the club to cooperate with him. However, it is clear that both parties are not on the same wavelength.
Several Ligue 1 clubs are interested in the experienced defender, including Stade Rennais and Olympique Lyonnais.
One also has to understand the club’s situation. With Unai Emery give a very small budget to work with in the summer, selling players such as Koscielny seems to be the only way to generate more funds.
