Lautaro Martinez’s agent confirmed reports that Barcelona are “strongly” interested in signing the forward from Inter Milan.
Upon completing a €22m move from Racing Club last summer, Martinez enjoyed a stellar first season of European football at Inter and finished with nine goals in 35 appearances.
With Mauro Icardi set to leave the San Siro, the 21-year-old could feature more prominently next term under new manager Antonio Conte.
But it seems that may not be the case as Martinez’s impressive Copa America campaign for Argentina has captured the interest of Barcelona. If the rumours are true, the Catalan giants could make an offer as high as €112m for him.
And Martinez’s agent, Alberto Yaque, has confirmed this speculation to be true.
“Talk of Barcelona’s interest is true,” Yaque told Ole.
“No-one’s called us, but we know that they’ve been looking at him strongly. It’s true that Barcelona like him.”
Neymar is also pushing hard for a return to Camp Nou following a disappointing two years at Paris Saint-Germain.
Therefore, regular opportunities will be hard to come for Martinez as he will also have to compete with compatriot Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez.
So far, Barcelona have completed three signings in the summer transfer window in Frenkie de Jong, Neto and Emerson.
While Inter have captured Diego Godin, Valentino Lazaro and Stefano Sensi. They’re also trying to sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United, which may open the door for Martinez to leave Italy.
