Claudio Lotito has backed the idea of Lazio playing a one-off title-deciding match against Juventus if Serie A season fails to resume.
With 63 points from 26 games, Juventus led the Serie A title race and were on course to win their ninth straight and 36th overall Scudetto, prior to the league getting suspended in early March.
Prime minister Giuseppe Conte recently permitted the Serie A clubs to return to the training grounds from May 4. For now, clubs have been advised to train individually with the hopes of resuming full-fledged training sessions from two weeks later.
However, a decision regarding the proceedings of the remainder of the season is yet to be made. Also, there are still doubts about whether or not the current season can be resumed.
Separated by just a point, Lazio are nearest to Juventus in the title race. And president Claudio Lotito says a start over of the season would be a disadvantage for Lazio.
“Yes, I would accept it,” Lolito replied to La Repubblica when asked if he would be open to having a one-off title-deciding match with Juventus. “But I never asked myself the question.”
“Starting the season again disadvantages us in a way. But I think about the interests of 20 clubs.
“Today we are one point away from Juventus. But in the first game against Juventus, we won 3-1 and also in the Super Cup we won 3-1. And we still had to play another match.”
