While Argentina did not end up winning the trophy, Lionel Scaloni is the right man to take Argentina forward according to Paredes.
When Lionel Scaloni selected Leandro Paredes for the Copa America squad, it was clear that the new manager was going to try things a little differently.
Before the tournament, Paredes never got a lot of chance to represent the national team. However, Scaloni is apparently a big fan of the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder and his move paid dividends.
Paredes was one of the most consistent performers for Argentina in the competition and was even named in the Copa America Team of the Tournament.
And the player is keen to continue working with Scaloni who he feels has great leadership qualities.
“He was an inexperienced coach, but we knew that. He did a great job. He has a lot of room for improvement with us. He had a good group of players and he led them well. He says things that are on his mind and he knows what he wants,” Paredes said according to Ole.
And the young midfielder was also critical of former coach, Jorge Sampaoli. The former manager guided the national team to World Cup qualification but the adventure in Russia last year was a forgettable one.
And Paredes says that Sampaoli struggled to get his message across and was always changing things due to a lack of clarity.
“The former coach could not explain what he wanted. We never knew what he wanted. Sampaoli was very changeable, he was not clear in his directions. Sometimes he told you to do something and when you did that, he would end up asking you why you did it. He never knew what he wanted.”
Clearly, Paredes and co are glad to see the back of their previous manager and enjoy working under Scaloni more.
