Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski is keen to see the club sign another striker in order to relieve him off of some of the goalscoring burden.
At the age of 30, Robert Lewandowski is not showing any signs of slowing down. Following another successful campaign with the Bavarians, the Polish striker will be looking forward to next season. However, the striker feels that the club should bring in another striker to make things easier for him.
While speaking to Sport Bild, the Poland international admitted that it is great for any team to have a back up option. The striker says that this helps on several levels.
“If you have the option of a second striker, that’s better – for the team and for me. With a back up, I could get some rest. I can watch the game from the outside and see how the team plays without me.”
At present, Bayern Munich don’t have any other striker on the squad. 31 year old Sandro Wagner was released this summer. The only alternative at the moment is young Jann-Fiete Arp. However, at the age of 19, one cannot expect Arp to be consistent.
Bayern Munich have been looking at Timo Werner who has been in fine form for RB Leipzig. However, it remains to be seen if the German would be happy to play second fiddle to Lewandowski.
This isn’t the first time Lewandowski has asked for new players. The former Borussia Dortmund man isn’t sure if his wishes would come true however.
“I’m not sure what’s coming, but there is still something.”
At present, Bayern Munich have not been too active in the transfer market. The club is searching for a buyer for Jerome Boateng. The defender still has a couple of years left on his contract but has been deemed surplus to requirements. Should the World Cup winner end up leaving, maybe then the club would grand Lewandowski his wish.
