Following the departures of Thiago Mendes and Youssouf Kone, Lille are going to be busy this summer as the club looks to find replacements.
After a fantastic Ligue 1 campaign, Lille risk losing some key elements of the squad. The club has already lost the services of Thiago Mendes and Youssouf Kone who were sold to Olympique Lyonnais.
Meanwhile, star winger Nicolas Pepe continues to be linked with a move away from Lille. The Ivroian was in blazing form last season and has attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
However, the winger prefers a move to Paris Saint-Germain who haven’t made a concrete offer so far. And with a price tag of 100 million Euros, the Ivorian could be a difficult player to move on if Lille do not lower their financial expectations.
The arrival of Timothy Weah from PSG has softened the blow and Christophe Galtier believes that the club will lose Pepe eventually.
“For you there are many unknowns, it’s normal. If you were given information, it would cause problems. The departures that took place, in particular Youssouf Kone and Thiago Mendes, were already decided,” said the Frenchman as reported by Foot Mercato.
Pepe wants to leave this summer but the Lille coach isn’t surprised, admitting that the player has outgrown the club.
“We know that Nicolas will not be here for long because he is in demand and that is a reflection of the good work done by the club. It is true that Nicolas has not already been transferred and other players haven’t joined. I don’t know if we are far (from the asking price for Pepe), I’m not going to go in the details.”
However, Galtier expects a few reinforcements this summer.
“Regarding the arrival of players, last year, they arrived too. There was no new arrival during the start of the summer. We are discussing with other clubs for players who could join us. Arrivals will be based on departures.”
