In what is regularly one of the most heated debates about two of the best Argentinian footballers ever, Lineker gave his opinion on the matter.

The legendary English striker is a well-known fan of Messi. Lineker spent three seasons in Barcelona, scoring 42 goals in this period.

The debate of Messi vs Maradona is a never-ending one. Perhaps it’s best to say that Argentinians appreciate Maradona more, but the rest of the world mostly puts Messi on the top.

In his interview with talkSPORT, Lineker said:

“I never thought I’d see a better player than Diego.

“Maradona was unbelievable. I was so much in awe of him, as was everybody in those days.

“Messi does everything and more that Maradona could do. His goalscoring ratio is near enough a goal a game, whereas Diego’s is about one in two, which is still very good in those days. It’s a little bit easier now.

“But also, Messi is the best dribbler I’ve ever seen and he’s as good of a passer as I’ve ever seen.

“Diego was great at both of those things, but when you take into account the longevity that Messi’s done it for. Around 15 years at the same level.”

Needless to say, Lineker thinks that Messi is better than Ronaldo, due to the excitement that Argentinian provides us with:

“I’m a massive fan of Ronaldo but watching Messi makes me feel joyous. Messi can do four or five things in a game that get you off your seat.”

Lionel Messi played his first minutes of the season in Champions League clash against Dortmund. Barcelona needs Argentinian, as they are obviously lacking in the creative department without him.

In a hope to recover from his retirement when it comes, Barcelona went all out to secure the life after Messi.

Some of the moves that prove this are buying Frenkie de Jong from Ajax, and Arthur from Gremio to recreate Xavi-Iniesta duo from the golden generation.
