Marcello Lippi believes he and Roberto Mancini are not too different as Italy prepare to win Euro 2020.
Marcello Lippi will go down as one of the greatest Italian managers of all time.
The primary reason for such an analogy is the mere fact he led them to World Cup glory back in 2006.
Mancini is fast making a name for himself too at the national team level.
The Azzurri were in the footballing wilderness after failing to reach the last World Cup in Russia, 2018.
Mancini took over an Azzurri that was living on past glories and needed a drastic rebuild.
Lippi feels that Mancini has the team back to where they belong.
In an interview reported by Football Italia, he insists Mancini is just like him. His team are going to a major tournament with one thought on their mind, to win it.
“Mancini thinks like me. He has the same impatience in understanding the value of the team.”
“I wanted the World Cup: it wasn’t enough for me to be better than Moldova, I had to go toe-to-toe with the big sides.”
“Italy only go to European Championships and World Cups to win.”
