Steve Nicol feels that Liverpool need to sign Ryan Sessegnon this summer in a bid to prove competition to Andy Robertson.
While Ryan Sessegnon saw Fulham relegated to the Championship following some abysmal defensive displays, the youngster had shown enough ability to deserve a stay in the Premier League.
The English left back is considered one of the rising stars in England and has been tipped for big move this summer.
And while Fulham haven’t received any concrete bid for the youngster, it is clear that Ryan Sessegnon will eventually leave Craven Cottage this summer.
Steve Nicol feels that Liverpool should capitalize on this opportunity and sign the teenager. While the Reds already have Andy Robertson as their preferred starting full-back, the former Liverpool man feels that Sessgnon would add more competition to the Scotland international.
And with Alberto Moreno already gone, Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t mind having another great option down the flanks.
While speaking to ESPN FC, Nicol says that while Ryan Sessegnon will not become an automatic first choice, he will keep Robertson on his toes.
“Still a teenager,” Nicol, a man who tasted First Division title and European Cup success with the Reds told ESPN FC.
“Well he [wouldn’t be] starting, he’s pushing.
“He’s there to push and he’s there to make the 11 that start better.
“He’s still a teenager, still has a lot to learn.
“But, what, in two or three years time, he’s pushing Robertson or anybody else down that left-hand side.”
And with just one year left on his current deal, Fulham might want to cash in on Ryan Sessegnon who truly deserves to play in the Premier League week in week out.
And Liverpool on their part, will have an option that can score goals and provide tons of assists on a regular basis.
