Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was delighted with his side’s 5-0 victory at FC Porto in the first leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie, but believes there is room for improvement
It was an outstanding performance from Liverpool with goals from Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and a hat-trick from Sadio Mane. The result has given Liverpool a big advantage heading into the return leg at Anfield.
Currently the Premier League side are at a Marbella training camp for a four day workout program in different surroundings to their training ground at Melwood. After playing in Portugal, Henderson was keen to take advantage of this training camp.
“I think after the game on Wednesday, we’ll recover for the first couple of days and then we’ll get some good sessions in over the weekend on the training pitch, on things we need to work and improve on for the games coming up,” Henderson told the club website.
“I think it’ll be a good camp for us to recover and then get ready for next week.”
While acknowledging the performance at Porto, Henderson challenged his teammates to repeat it on a more regular basis.
“It’s certainly up there because it’s a difficult place to go,” the midfielder said.
“They’re a tough opponent so to go there, put a performance on like that and get that result was brilliant for us as a team.
“Hopefully it can give us great confidence going forward, but at the same time we cannot get too carried away – we’ve got to stay focused on what we need to do. It was a great game and hopefully there’ll be many more before the end of the season.
“We’ve got the return leg coming up in a couple of weeks. The job is only half done and it’s another big game for us – and before then we’ve got Premier League games that are huge for us as well. The games come thick and fast.
“It was a great experience on Wednesday night and hopefully there’ll be more like that in the future.”
