Liverpool has an easy first result vs FC Porto at Anfield

With goals from Keita and Firmino during the first half, Liverpool FC got a great first result at Anfield Road in the Champions League quarterfinals.

As the seasons keep going by, Liverpool FC keeps proving that they have a special kind of gene for the Champions League as they keep moving towards the final in Madrid.

For today’s quarterfinal challenge, the Reds received a special visit from FC Porto at Anfield Road and expected to have a relatively quiet night as they were considered favorites with an overwhelming margin.

Jurgen Klopp’s side played with all his top players for this match without speculating, he knew that he needed to send a stern message to the rest of the competition because Liverpool is still trying to compete for the two titles they are still playing for.

It didn’t take the Reds long to draw out their first good moment of the match, Sadio Mane took a ball in the final third and got inside the box with relative ease, he delivered the ball to Firmino and the Brazilian saw Naby Keita in the outskirts of the box.

The Guinea international took the assist and released a long-distance shot that was deviated by the FC Porto defense, this was more than enough for Liverpool to get the first goal of the evening through the midfielder.

This was Keita’s second goal of the week after scoring his first-ever Premier League goal last weekend against Southampton.

But Liverpool was far from done with their show, the Reds needed to get another goal in order to relax a little bit and manage the rest of the match with that advantage.

The other key moment came before the first half an hour of the match came, Roberto Firmino scored after Trent Alexander-Arnold assisted him and the whole Liverpool crowd celebrated a result that came with relative ease.

After halftime, the Reds came back with an even greater motivation to get more goals but VAR prevented them from getting that third one after Sadio Mane’s effort was disallowed early in the second half due to a very tight offside.

Even though FC Porto attempted to at least get an away goal, nothing was going through the defense that Virgil van Dijk led tonight at Anfield Road.

‘Lucky boy’ Sadio Mane credits Roberto Firmino for Super Cup

Two-goal hero Sadio Mane believes Liverpool team-mate Roberto Firmino deserves special credit for the club's UEFA Super Cup success.

The Reds keep proving that they are one of the most powerful sides in European football right now, especially with the defense they have at the moment and the offensive lineup that they have put together over the last couple of years.

Despite Mohamed Salah not being lucky in front of goal this evening, those two goals during the first half were more than enough for Liverpool to get one step closer to the Champions League semifinals.

Today was an ideal moment for Jurgen Klopp to prove that he has a better predisposition to lead his players to a new Champions League semifinal, he passed his test with flying colors on the same day that Pep Guardiola failed miserably against Tottenham Hotspur.

The result that both Liverpool and Manchester City got today could directly affect both squads’ motivations in the Premier League, as Liverpool is set to play against Chelsea at home and the Citizens are visiting Crystal Palace.

Both matches will take place on Saturday and both of them will play the return legs next week, only Liverpool are the ones that have the best chances to qualify to the semifinals after today’s performance they offered against Porto.

Out of the last three matches that the Reds have played against the Portuguese squad, they have scored 7 goals, they have kept a clean sheet, they have won all three matches, and they have attempted 11 shots in total between all three games.

We can easily say that Liverpool has the easiest road to the semifinal after watching tonight’s performance.
