Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher thinks that Liverpool can have their very own Kevin De Bruyne in Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold current plays as a full back for the Merseysiders.
But Carragher feels he has the ability to play in a more advanced role, similar to that of the playmaker which De Bruyne plays for Manchester City.
The role of right or left-back has changed in football over the years. A full-back is expected to have some attacking ability about him.
That is where Alexander-Arnold has excelled. His marauding runs down the line, turning defense into attack at lightning speed.
It has seen the 20-year-old England international, provide three assists already this season. He had 16 last season.
Speaking to Viasport, Carragher explained the player’s talent and what he would love to see from him in the future.
He’s been following Alexander-Arnold for some time.
“I saw him the Liverpool academy and my son started there and was four, five years younger than him and Liverpool knew then they had a really good player.”
“If you think about what he has achieved at this young age – a Champions League winner and another Champions League final.”
“He’s probably one of the best young players in the world if you think about what he has done.”
Carragher believes he is a key asset to Jurgen Klopp’s side and brings more than most to the team
“If you talk about [Kylian] Mbappe and he’s won the World Cup, but as a defender and playing at this level and how important he is to the team.”
“He is possibly the most creative player in the team from right full-back.”
“He has a lot of responsibility at a young age and he’s not going to be a superstar, he is a superstar.”
“His strengths are that he can handle the ball and he is the most creative player in the team, just look at his assists.”
Carragher would love to see his creative ability exploit other teams further up the field and sees him making that move in the future.
“He has more quality now than Liverpool’s midfield players and you think about the crosses that De Bruyne puts in from the right midfield position.”
“Maybe that’s a position where Trent could play?”
