Liverpool have confirmed that defender Joel Matip will likely be out for the rest of the season with the club confirming he will likely require an operation on a thigh injury
The center-back suffered the injury during their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, but still managed to complete the full 90 minutes of the match.
But Liverpool have now released a statement confirming reports that the German will “likely to require an operation on a thigh injury” and that could result in the end of Matip’s season.
The former Cameroon defender has scored one goal in his 25 league appearances this season and is injury will be another blow for Jurgen Klopp, who recently lost Joe Gomez to an ankle injury while on international duty for England.
The club have announced that further details on Matip and midfielder Adam Lallana will be given in a press conference later today.
Liverpool are currently preparing for the first leg of their quarter-final tie against Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday.
