Loptegeui’s new club, Sevilla, will face Real Madrid this Sunday in a weekend derby.
Sevilla is at the top of La Liga, with 10 points in four matches, meaning they only dropped two points up until this point.
There are quite a few former Real Madrid men at Sevilla, with Chicharito being brought in this summer, along with the left-back Reguilon on loan from Real Madrid.
Lopetegui’s infamous six months at Real Madrid saw him face a lot of criticism from the Madrid media.
After an excellent start of the season with Sevilla, the Andalusian team will face its toughest test yet.
Real Madrid is arriving badly wounded from the mid-week 3-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain.
Lopetegui remained calm in the press conference and said:
“There is no room for extra motivation when you coach Sevilla, something I can hopefully do for many years,” he said at a press conference on Saturday.
“There are three points at stake and that is enough motivation, even if we know the impact of facing Real Madrid.
“I always have a very good memory of all the clubs where I have been, as I stay with the positive.
“I try to be responsible and ambitious, and tomorrow will be no exception.
“The central characters are the players, not the coaches,” as quoted by Marca.
Even though he doesn’t say it, there’s no doubt Lopetegui will relish an opportunity to get back at Florentino Perez and Real Madrid.
As for the Madrid side, they’re facing serious crisis, as Zidane seems to be losing the control in the dressing room.
These rumors are worsen by the fact that Hazard showed overweight. The Belgian international still hasn’t shown the spark Real Madrid needs, at least not yet.
