Julen Lopetegui suggests Sevilla rightfully deserved to go past AS Roma as his side were clearly the better team on the pitch.
Sevilla breezed past AS Roma with a 2-0 victory in the Europa League Round of 16 on Thursday.
A stunner from left-back Sergio Reguilon saw Sevilla take the lead 21 minutes into the match. Youssef En-Nesyri then drilled in from close range to double the advantage just prior to the half-time break.
It could have easily been more for Julen Lopetegui’s men, who put on a near-perfect display at the MSV-Arena.
They will now face Wolves, who grabbed a 1-0 win against Olympiacos, in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Lopetegui was more than content with what he saw on the pitch as he analyzes his team’s performance, and now wants to put his focus on what lies ahead.
“We played against a fantastic team who have fantastic players,” he told the press, according to Football Italia.
“In my view, they have a great coach, but we deserved to win with excellent performance, creating many scoring opportunities and never really suffering under pressure.
“We are happy. We must stay calm and recuperate so we can concentrate on the next match. All we’ve done so far is qualify for the next round.”
