Dejan Lovren has called on his teammates to improve their performances following defeat to Watford.
Liverpool are still beating themselves up after being outdone for the first time in the Premier League this season during their last visit to the Vicarage Road, says defender Dejan Lovren.
Two quick goals by Ismaila Sarr followed by Troy Deeney’s strike assured that Jurgen Klopp’s men do not emulate Arsenal’s invincible 2003-04 season.
Much of the blame for the Reds’ defeat was put on Dejan Lovren. The defender made his first league start on Saturday since December and it showed in his performance.
Recently, Lovren lifted the lid on the atmosphere surrounding the team after their defeat. He also urged his teammates to work on improving themselves.
“It feels like someone has hit us in the face – and we deserved it,” Lovren told Sky Sports.
“We feel a bit ashamed because there’s no excuse for that performance. It really hurts because from the beginning to the end we were missing all the things we usually have. The manager looked at us when he came into the dressing room and I think he knows we are missing something.
“We need to look at this and realize that we have to do much, much better.”
