Tottenham have awarded Lucas Moura a contract extension until June 2024 following his impressive displays last season.
Lucas, who joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2018 for €28.40m, impressed greatly in Harry Kane’s absence last season to lead the club’s charge to the Champions League final.
The Brazilian got himself into the history books in May by scoring an incredible hat-trick to help Spurs pull off an incredible semi-final comeback win over Ajax. He also had a role in the club’s fourth-place Premier League finish.
Therefore, Spurs have decided to award Lucas with a one-year contract extension. It will keep him in north London until 2024 and reportedly earn him a pay rise of £75,000 per week.
“I feel so happy and comfortable here. Everyone at the club is amazing and I’m so thankful for everything the club has given me,” Lucas told SpursTV.
“I just need to be at my best now, like I always do, to show everyone I love to play football and I want to deliver a lot more for this club.
“My objective is always to improve and make the fans happy.”
Lucas managed 15 goals and two assists in 49 appearances across all competitions for Spurs last season. Other notable highlights for the popular Brazilian was his double at Manchester United and hat-trick against Huddersfield Town in April.
Now, the 26-year-old winger will hope to build on his strong progress from the last term ahead of the new campaign for Spurs. He’s already opened up on plans to help the club win silverware this time around.
Pochettino’s side will begin their 2019/20 Premier League campaign at home to the newly-promoted Aston Villa on Saturday. The match will begin at 18:30 (CET).
