AC Milan new signing Lucas Paqueta gave his reasons for joining the club, while also announcing he will wear the No 39 jersey
The 21-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of most exciting talents in South American football with observers even comparing him to Milan legend and fellow Brazilian Kaka.
Aside from Milan, Paqueta had also been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But the Flamengo star instead confirmed he would be joining Milan for a reported €35m deal.
Now Paqueta has revealed that Milan technical director Leonardo, who’s also Brazilian and played for Flamengo himself, was the main factor behind the move to Italy.
“I’ll wear the No 39. It’s the number with which I debuted in Flamengo’s first team,” Paqueta told the Brazilian Press, via Football-Italia.
“It brought me luck and I hope the same happens at Milan. If I’ve chosen the Rossoneri, it’s thanks to Leonardo.
“He called me and convinced me right away. I understood Milan had a serious project for my career and that’s essential for a young player who arrives in Europe.
“I can’t wait to start.”
Paqueta has managed 13 goals and five assists in 65 appearances in all competitions for Flamengo since 2017.
The young star has played twice for Brazil after debuting in September in a 5-0 friendly win away against El Salvador.
