Lucas Perez has revealed he turned down Barcelona because he didn’t want to make the same mistake of being frozen out like he was at Arsenal.
Perez was one of the players linked with a January move to Barcelona but has claimed he never for once considered it.
The 31-year-old says he doesn’t want to be frozen out old as he was during his time in the Premier League with Arsenal.
Barcelona later opted to sign Martin Braithwaite in their quest to solve the Dembele emergency situation.
Lucas Perez has impressed this season for Alaves, scoring 10 goals in 24 La Liga appearances, and has said he wasn’t going to put his happiness at risk.
“In the winter transfer window, like all transfer windows, teams usually call,” he told Marca. “In fact, not only Barcelona called, but other teams as well.
“But in my head, I wanted to end the season here because I am happy and I have a contract.
“I didn’t want to take another misstep, where I would not have opportunities, as happened to me in England. In no case did I plan to leave mid-season, I want to stay here until the end.
Perez also claimed he is fully committed at Alaves and is looking to do even better at the club.
