David Luiz does not expect Arsenal to be the club he retires at, as he plans a return to Benfica for one last hoorah.

David Luiz only arrived at Arsenal last summer. The Brazilian defender only signed a two-year agreement and is apparently already planning his next move.

Luiz began his European adventure with the Portuguese side Benfica. He arrived at the Estadio da Luz as a young 20-year-old.

From there he developed into one of Europes most accomplished defenders, that has seen him lift Championships in Portugal, England, and France, as well as being crowned a European champion.

While the center back is 33 years-old he apparently has no intention of calling time on his career just yet.

In fact he told Benfica’s official website he is wanting to return to where it all began and done the red shirt of the club he loves one more time.

Luiz said:

“I always said that I would like to end my career at Benfica.”

“In football everything changes, what is true today, tomorrow is a lie, but my feeling is not!”

“I love Benfica. My dream is to step on the pitch of Estadio da Luz in their colors.”

“For all that I lived and felt, for what Benfica is in my life and in my history, for everything, Benfica is bigger than any player.”

Luiz will more than likely see out the final year of his Arsenal contract. The question is can Mikel Arteta find a suitable partner for the Brazilian in an attempt to try a restore some glory to the Gunners?
