Jean-Michel Aulas claims that Jose Mourinho turned down an offer to take charge of Lyon as he’s already decided on a new club.
Shortly after showing Sylvinho the door, Aulas made an attempt to convince Mourinho to become Lyon’s next manager. Ultimately, though, his efforts were in vain with assistant coach Gerald Baticle taking temporarily control instead.
It means Mourinho continues to be without work since losing his Manchester United job last December.
The Portuguese, of course, is currently waiting for the right opportunity and won’t rush a comeback. He has since taken up some punditry gigs on television to give some expert analysis on matches this season.
But Aulas now claims that Mourinho has already got his next role lined up with an unnamed club.
“We had some fairly flattering exchanges over SMS. It was nice for everyone,” said the Lyon president.
“He did not accept our proposal to meet because he has already chosen another club.”
Aulas has now reportedly set his sights on naming former Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc as Lyon’s next coach.
Meanwhile, reports in the English press have suggested Mourinho is keen to remain in the Premier League. It’s understood, in fact, that he’s keeping close tabs on Mauricio Pochettino’s situation at Tottenham.
The 56-year-old is apparently open to the idea of taking over in north London should Pochettino leave Spurs.
He has already turned down offers from AS Monaco, Lille OSC, Benfica, Wolfsburg, Schalke and AC Milan. And even a stunning €100m offer from Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande wasn’t enough to tempt him.
Former side Real Madrid, on the other hand, may also be of interest to Mourinho given their lacklustre start under Zinedine Zidane this season.
