Lyon confirm Genesio will remain in charge

Lyon’s club president Jean Michel Aulas has confirmed that head coach Bruno Genesio will remain at the club for next season

The Frenchman, who himself graduated through Lyon’s youth ranks and played for the senior side for 10 years, took charge of the Ligue 1 side back in December 2015 and has since won 73 of his 129 games in charge.

“I can tell you that the management committee unanimously decided to confirm Bruno (under contract through June 2019) in his position. He will coach the team next season,” Michel Aulas told the club website.

Gianluigi Buffon explains his sudden PSG departure

Gianluigi Buffon has revealed why he turned down a lucrative offer to remain at Paris Saint-Germain and opened up on his future plans.

Meanwhile, Genesio welcomed the announcement and stated his belief that his side can still improve.

“I am very happy and proud to continue leading this group that I believe so much in. There is potential and room for a significant amount of improvement,” said the 51-year-old.

Under Genesio this season, Lyon won 32 of their 53 games in all competitions and secured themselves a return to the Champions League by finishing in third place in the Ligue 1 table.
