Lyon near deal for Joachim Andersen

Sampdoria are on the verge of agreeing to sell Danish defender, Joachim Andersen to Lyon with the Denmark international set to join the Ligue 1 giants soon.

Joachim Andersen could very soon become another piece of the puzzle that’s called the Olympique Lyonnais revolution. After completing the signing of Jean Lucas and getting close to signing Thiago Mendes and Youssouf Kone, Les Gones have made great strides to sign a central defender.

And after extensively scouting the youngster, Lyon are close to agreeing upon a transfer fee for Joachim Andersen.

The club had been in search of a central defender since the start of the transfer window in order to support Jason Denayer, Lyon explored a lot of options. The likes of Laurent Koscielny and Eric Bailly were studied but eventually, it was Joachim Andersen who made the cut.

Arrived in the summer of 2017 from FC Twente, Joachim Andersen was one of the revelations of Serie A last season.

Lyon star Jason Denayer smashes a passing record

Lyon star Jason Denayer entered the record books on Friday by completing the most passes in a single game in all of Europe's top-five leagues.

In 32 league games, the young Dane showcased incredible calmness while in possession and the sort of leadership qualities you wouldn’t find in players his age. Indeed Juninho is a huge admirer of the youngster and feels that Andersen would be a reliable presence at the back for many years.

While Marcelo is the club’s usual partner to Denayer at the heart of defense, it is clear that Andersen is seen as a more reliable partner.

The signing, once it’s official, would be a major coup for the Rhone club. The youngster was getting a lot of interest from the likes of Manchester United and AC Milan. But Lyon acted quickly and tabled an offer of 18 million Euros. While that offer was rejected, another of 30 million Euros is being considered according to Sky Italia.

And the Dane is also excited at the prospect of playing for Lyon next season where he would have a chance to play in the Champions League on a regular basis.
