It is not unlikely that Lyon fail in keeping hold of Houssem Aouar beyond this summer, suggests Juninho Pernambucano.
Lyon’s Houssem Aouar was fundamental to his side’s two-legged success over Juventus in the Champions League Round of 16.
Aouar has in general been one of the French side’s key players this season, producing a return of nine goals and eight assists across 39 matches in all competitions.
One of the most consistent performers in Ligue 1 in recent years, the midfielder has been attracting interest from the Premier League as of late. Arsenal and Manchester City both are rumored to have identified him as a summer target.
President Jean-Michel Aulas in April asserted that the club are not at all interested in parting ways with him.
However, it appears that there has been a change of plans as sporting director Juninho Pernambucano recently admitted that the prized asset could be sold.
“In the absence of arrivals, I rather think that there will be departures,” he told RMC Sport.
“Houssem Aouar? When you have great players in the squad, it is quite logical that other bigger teams with greater economic power come to seek the players.
“There is a risk of losing important players. If we lose important players, I have already spoken with the president, we will have the right to balance the workforce.”
