Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has branded the Celtic chief executive a “bulldog” amid talks over a move for Moussa Dembele

The French striker was absent in Wednesday’s training session with Lyon representatives having arrived at Glasgow to begin talks over a transfer.

But things do not seem to have progressed the way Aulas had hoped after labelling Celtic’s chief executive, Peter Lawwell, a “bulldog” for his apparent stubbornness.

“I know the boss at Celtic well. He is basically like a bulldog who negotiates after yapping. Don’t tell him I said that,” said Aulas, in a press conference.

Possibly fearing the consequences of what he had just said, Aulas quickly tried to cover up his comments by stating that Lawwell was his friend and “a great guy”.

He added: “He will be vexed that I’ve said that. He’s a good friend, a great guy and very difficult in negotiations.”

The European transfer window shuts on Friday at 11 pm.

Aulas also confirmed that Lyon are in advanced talks with Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.
