Rio Ferdinand believes Harry Maguire should have taken more initiative during Manchester United’s match against Burnley.
Old Trafford was visibly disappointed as the fans were seen fleeing the stadium long before the referee called the match between Manchester United could and Burnley to a halt.
Chris Wood gave Burnley the lead in the first half before Jay Rodriguez doubled it up with a brilliant strike to seal all three points for his side in the Premier League.
But Rio Ferdinand has argued that Man United skipper Harry Maguire was at fault for conceding the first goal. Ferdinand complained that Maguire should have closed Chris Wood down while demanding more from the world’s costliest defender.
“Go up and win it. Show the desire to win the ball,” Ferdinand said as per Metro.
“Someone has to go in there and be commanding. Maguire, you’re the captain.
“The first ball isn’t really the problem. It’s the second ball. What are you doing there, Maguire? He’s in a great position but what happens? He doesn’t anticipate it. You can’t be that far off. He gets in front of him and gets punished.
“Just get against people, rough people up. You’ve got to make it difficult for people. That’s too easy.”
