AC Milan have officially announced the appointment of Paolo Maldini as the club’s technical director as the Serie A side looks for a fresh start.
Following Leonardo’s resignation, AC Milan have moved swiftly to appoint Maldini as the club’s new technical director.
The legendary defender was tipped for a return to the club and now, he has been given a very important position at the club.
As reported by Daily Mail, Ivan Gazidis, the club’s chief executive, is delighted at the appointment and is confident in Maldini’s abilities.
‘Paolo embodies that quality and those values that are the building blocks of our club.
‘I am happy to have him at the helm of our sporting area. With him, we will be able to build a modern club, formed by professionals of the highest quality.
‘It will be a journey we will pursue together to achieve a challenging and compelling project, one which will require great energy and dedication.
‘I am confident Paolo will be able to project his experience, his vision and his leadership.
‘Paolo is an integral part of AC Milan and knows the way to success. He will be an important point of reference for everyone.’
The first order of the day for Maldini would be to look for a new coach in collaboration with Ivan Gazidis. Marco Giampaolo of Genoa is being touted as a great replacement. The Italian has done a great job with Genoa since signing for them back in 2016 and is likely to replace Rino Gattuso.
Maldini will also be looking at the player recruitment side of things. The likes of Jordan Veretout, Stefano Sensi, Mario Rui and Rade Krunic have been linked with moves to the San Siro and should these moves happen, it would be a great start to Maldini’s career.
Indeed, Maldini returning to Milan is a great bit of news for a club that has somehow lost its identity in recent times.
