Maldini offered Leonardo role at AC Milan

Following the departure of the former Brazil international, the legendary Italian full-back has been offered the role of technical director by the AC Milan supremo.

The Chief Executive of AC Milan, Ivan Gazidis has already started making moves and decisions following a rather disappointing run to the 2018/2019 Serie A campaign. And now, according to Calciomercato, the former Arsenal strongman is willing to grant more responsibility to one of the club’s favorite sons.

A few days ago, Leonardo tendered his resignation as sporting director following Gennaro Gattusso’s resignation as the club’s manager. This leaves Milan in dire need of capable replacements ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window.

However, it still appears that Maldini is going to take his time to think about the offer. This is largely due to the fact that Milan are going to go back to basics. Most of the focus will be on unearthing talented players. This is in contrast to Leonardo’s modus operandi where there was a clear preference for already-established stars.

Lukaku hails Conte relationship after Inter’s 2-0 derby win

Romelu Lukaku praised his rapport with head coach Antonio Conte after his goal helped seal Inter Milan a 2-0 derby win over AC Milan.

This has become even more important than before in light of the club’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League and the unenviable task of meeting UEFA’s Financial Fair Play targets.

It makes sense to have the former World Cup winner for Italy as a technical director.  Maldini is seen as a great candidate with an eye for talent and scouting the right players who would have a long term future at San Siro.

If Maldini does agree to the terms put on the table, he would also be required to search for a new coach while keeping in mind the financial constraints.

The likes of Leonardo Jardim and Leonardo Semplici have been mooted but the duo is unlikely to leave their respective clubs. Meanwhile, Massimiliano Allegri and Simone Inzaghi’s financial expectations have already forced the Milan giants to look elsewhere in the continent.
