Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has agreed on a season-long loan at Portuguese club Vitoria de Setubal
The Portugal under-21 international has played in three of United’s five pre-season games in their US tour and particularly impressed in the club’s penalty shootout win over AC Milan in Pasadena last week.
But with the likes of David De Gea and Sergio Romero expected to remain ahead of him in Jose Mourinho’s goalkeeping options, Pereira has now gone over to Portugal to gain some valuable experience with United having signed Lee Grant to be their new third-choice keeper.
“Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has completed a loan move to Vitoria Setubal in Portugal,” read a statement.
“Jose Mourinho is a firm believer in Pereira’s talents and handed him a new contract in 2017 that runs until 2021, with the option of an additional year.”
Pereira is the third goalkeeper to leave Old Trafford this summer following Sam Johnstone’s move to West Bromwich Albion and Dean Henderson’s arrival at Sheffield United.
