With impressive performances by Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero, Manchester City obliterated Schalke 04 and secured their spot in the quarterfinals.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City takes it day by day, they played against Schalke 04 this Tuesday after that initial first-leg 2-2 result in Germany and they proved that they really are one of the most offensive sides in European football.

The match took them a good half an hour to get that first goal, it came through a penalty called in their favor that Sergio Aguero converted with a Panenka-style attempt. Just three minutes later, Raheem Sterling set Aguero up for his second goal and finished with practically no angle.

It was already 2-0 at Etihad Stadium, seemed like it was going to be a happy night for the Citizens and Leroy Sane was even going to have enough time to get a third goal before halftime.

Sinchenko was the one who set the German winger up for that goal, but Sane’s particular show was only beginning as he wanted to make a massive impact during the second half that gifted us with one of the top performances of this UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

This 3-0 result meant that Manchester City would be able to play their football without any restrictions during the second half, Pep Guardiola’s boys thrive in this type of situation.

It didn’t take long for Leroy to find his first teammate, he served the ball for Raheem Sterling with a beautiful curled pass and the English forward didn’t hesitate to score Manchester City’s fourth goal early in the second half.

The true might of tiki-taka was witnessed this Tuesday at the Etihad, the fans chanted the manager’s name throughout the whole second half because they know that this performance puts them right at the top of the biggest title contenders for this competition.

Leroy Sane was arguably the most benefited player from this system, he was the winger who was able to serve most of the assists for this game and he served them all during the second half.

With less than twenty minutes left on the clock, Leroy was exquisite enough to send a clinical cross to Bernardo Silva to get that fifth goal of the match for the Citizens.

Sane also served Phil Foden his first-ever Champions League goal with a beautiful pass between the lines and Manchester City made it 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium with complete dominance, it was already a party in which the German winger had already gotten a goal and an assist hat-trick.

The final goal came from Gabriel Jesus during the final minutes of the game, he received an assist from Bernardo Silva and made it 7 for Pep Guardiola’s extremely dominant side.

This result proves that despite the Catalan manager’s constant statements in which he refuses to give Manchester city the favorite’s label, this squad has matured over time and transformed into one of the most competitive sides in the continent.

Also, Liverpool needs to go through on Wednesday against Bayern Munich if they want English football to make it four out of four Premier League squads in the Champions League’s Quarterfinals.

So far this season, both Manchester sides and Tottenham Hotspur have responded perfectly to the challenge and keep telling us that English football is going through a revival.

Having half of the squads qualified to the biggest club competition on the planet is no joke, but Jurgen Klopp’s side still has a major challenge ahead of them tomorrow.

As far as today goes, Pep Guardiola can rest easy because he has done very well so far this season and they are still fighting to get that historic quadruple. Next up for the Citizens is the FA Cup on Saturday at Swansea City.
