Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid are plotting a late move for Robert Lewandowski amid uncertainty over his Bayern Munich future.
The Polish striker is reportedly keen on a different challenge having dominated the Bundesliga during his time in Germany.
Manchester United are currently pursuing a centre-back and right winger with just a few hours the transfer window remaining.
But football finance expert Kieran Maguire claims the Red Devils may sign Lewandowski – and then play him out of position.
The Bayern Munich star has spent the entirety of his career through the middle, becoming one of the world’s feared strikers along the way.
But the expert thinks United may play him out wide if the 29-year-old signs on the dotted line before Thursday’s 5 pm deadline.
He told the Daily Star: “United can undoubtedly buy Lewandowski.
“But the issue is from his point of view that [Romelu] Lukaku is Jose Mourinho’s favourite.
“Therefore he would need Anthony Martial to leave, and even then he may be pushed out wide.”
The Bundesliga Champions have, so far, insisted their talisman will not be going anywhere.
