Mancini’s verdict on Italy’s performance

Italy’s manager Roberto Mancini feared the friendly game against the USA was heading for a barren draw until the last-minute goal that secured the win.

Mancini’s men were once again the dominant side and enjoyed a lion share of possession with numerous chances, but had to wait until the 94th minute for Matteo Politano’s breakthrough.

“It was heading to 0-0 again… but that’s football, there’s nothing you can do about it. We had so many chances, the important thing is that it was a good performance,” the Coach told Football Italia via Rai Sport.

“It was the first time we were playing together, so we couldn’t think of playing like the first half for 90 minutes. We got a little stretched out as we pushed harder to find the breakthrough.”

“We are in line with where we expected to be at this stage, perhaps doing even better, as the team is playing very well.
