Sadio Mane is disappointed with his manager Jurgen Klopp for backing teammate Virgil van Dijk ahead of him in the Ballon d’Or race.
Many placed their bets on Virgil van Dijk becoming the first defender in a long time to win the Ballon d’Or following his impressive performances at Liverpool last year.
However, Van Dijk lost out to Lionel Messi who clinched his sixth crown. Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammate Sadio Mane took the third and the fourth place in the rankings respectively.
Now Mane, who too enjoyed an extraordinary last season with Liverpool and also finished as joint top scorer in the Premier League, was disappointed at finishing outside top 3 in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
The Senegal international was left even more frustrated upon learning about manager Jurgen Klopp’s backing of Van Dijk for the last year’s prestigious award. According to France Football, this has left Mane with ‘a bitter taste.’
Real Madrid are believed to be circling for Mane and are reportedly willing to offer as much as €170 million for securing his services. And the revelation could be a deciding factor for Mane over his future.
