Sassuolo have expressed a wish to sign 20-year-old AC Milan midfielder Manuel Locatelli.
Manuel Locatelli is a product of Milan’s youth academy. He has been with the club since 2009 and was once tipped to follow the footsteps of Andrea Pirlo. However, after making only 21 appearances for The Rossonerri last season, it is believed he’s looking for a chance to prove himself elsewhere.
Cagliari were the early favorites to secure his signature, but a recent report by Calcio Mercato suggests Sassuolo have made contact and are joining the race for the talented youngster.
The Neroverdi have been very active on the transfer market under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, having already agreed terms with six players, most notably Federico Di Francesco, who joined from Bologna for €10 million, Khouma Babacar, who came over from Fiorentina for €9 million and Kevin-Prince Boateng, who is arriving for his second spell in Italy. Youngster Jens Odgaard and Filip Djuricic are the other two noteworthy acquisitions.
Manuel Locatelli would be Sassuolo’s third midfield addition, which signifies De Zerbi sees that area of the pitch as the team’s weakness and is acting fast to fix it. The former Benevento manager inherits last season’s worst goal scoring team in Seria A. Sassuolo managed to find the net only 29 times in 38 matches in 2017/18.
