Manuel Neuer has been criticized by Lothan Matthaus after his agent made claims about the gap between Premier League teams and the Germans.
Recently, Manuel Neuer made headlines in Germany after his agent claimed that the shot stopper is looking to leave the club this summer. The agent added that the club not being strong enough has forced the World Cup winner to think of a fresh start.
Premier League clubs have become strong in Europe recently after both club competitions saw all-English finals. Bayern Munich on the other hand, last featured in a Champions League final back in 2013 when they defeated Borussia Dortmund.
Last season, they were triumphed by Liverpool in the round of 16. While speaking to Sueddeutsche Zietung as reported by The Mirror, Thomas Kroth said that Manuel Neuer is driven by success.
“He is driven by success. My impression is that the gap between the top four English clubs is already serious, and Bayern, for the moment, is not sufficiently competitive to achieve Manuel’s objectives.”
Clearly irked by those comments, Matthaus said that Neuer should never have allowed those comments to be aired.
“His behaviour is totally unacceptable,” Matthäus told German newspaper Bild , in quotes reported by AS . “As the captain of Bayern he should speak to the club if he has a problem with the situation over signings.
“The doors of the management are always open.”
Neuer’s agent also said that his client will respond positively if Bayern Munich take the right steps.
He said: “When he realises that Bayern are responding, then he will probably blossom again.
“He does not want to retire in 2021. Now he is in the phase in which he has to decide: how will things progress in the future?
“Signing a contract extension and ending his career at Bayern is of course the obvious option, but it’s not the only one.”
