But the son of the Argentinean legend has warned the Colombian not to touch the number ten jersey that was used by his father.
James Rodriguez is almost set to a move to the Italian Lega Serie A where he will play for Napoli.
The former Real Madrid footballer spent some time on loan at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, but he failed to make an impact.
And at the Spanish La Liga giants, he was seen as a surplus, which is why the midfielder is set to play in Italy next season.
Diego Maradona Junior, the son of the Argentinean legend has revealed how delighted he is to see the Colombian at Napoli but has warned him about using a specific number on his back.
“I always comment telling [James] to go to Napoli on his photos,” Maradona Jr told Marca.
“I put pressure on him and recently he liked one of my comments.”
He explained: “It’s a dream that James is coming to Napoli. A footballer of this quality, with his left foot, can make the team better.”
“The city will welcome him with open arms and I’m sure that he’ll be able to perform at his best.”
“From what I know, everything is very advanced. All that’s left to sort out is the formula of the operation. Everything else is done,” he added.
“Don’t touch the No.10 [shirt]. It’s the private property of the family.”
“It’s my father’s. There were rumors that they’d give it to [Gonzalo] Higuain when he arrived, then to [Lorenzo] Insigne, but it has to be like in the NBA. If you retire a shirt number, you can’t use it again,” he concluded.
