Following another win in the Euro 2020, qualification phase, Marco Verratti has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to continue improving.
On Tuesday, Marco Verratti was star of the evening for the Azzurri as the Roberto Mancini’s men defeated Bosnia 2-1. The game was a crucial one for the Italians. A win would have given them a commanding lead in the qualification phase of the competition. It wasn’t smooth sailing but the new-look Italian team prevailed.
Verratti had a big role to play in the win. It was a great evening for the PSG man who returned to playing with his old friend, Lorenzo Insigne. The duo played together during their time at Pescara before leaving for pastures new.
While speaking to Il Posticipo, the young midfielder admitted that it was great playing with Insigne again. Marco Verratti admits that it was really difficult playing against Bosnia but his teammates held on.
“With Lorenzo, we spent a fantastic year in Pescara. I played a lot with him and we understand each other perfectly. He gave me a nice assist.”
“In the first half, it was tough. We played man to man and it was tough. But international football is like that. You can’t always have a great game. But we were good at not being knocked around, we recovered and won an important game. If we want to grow and improve, we must make mistakes. We are a young group and this match will help us in the future. Bosnia has great players like Pjanic, we could have done better but we deserved the win.”
With four wins out of four, thirteen goals scored and one conceded, Italy are definitely the most in-form team in Europe. However, Marco Verratti has urged for calm.
“We must not get excited, we did nothing. We are Italy and cannot win three games and become a phenomenon. We come from a bad moment and we must learn from mistakes.”
