Napoli captain Marek Hamsik is feeling intrigued by his new role at the club under new manager Carlo Ancelotti with a move to China now seemingly off the table

The Slovakia international was a key member of the squad under former coach Maurizio Sarri and formed part of a three-man midfield with now-former teammate Jorginho and Allan.

But now that Sarri and Jorginho have left for Chelsea this summer, Hamsik looks set to handed a different role under Ancelotti.

Having been linked with a move to China earlier this summer, latest reports in Italy suggest that Hamsik will be staying at Napoli and will play as a deep-lying playmaker.

“With Sarri, we parted normally,” he told Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia.

“He sent me a message on the first day of our preseason training camp, asking me to share it with the team. He wished us good luck for the future.

“[The role] is something that intrigues me and makes me curious. I’ve fallen into it with interest and optimism.

The move to China appears to be off with Hamsik’s deadline date of July 9 having now passed.

“It wasn’t the first time this possibility existed. Let’s say it would’ve set my family up for life.

“I gave myself a date of July 9, the date of our training camp, and that if nothing had happened by then, I’d have let it go.

“After the European Championship two years ago, there had been enquiries. De Laurentiis? I spoke to the President about this offer from China in May.

“I immediately branched out to him. We have a special and direct relationship. How he reacted? He said to me, ‘where on earth do you think you’re going? This is your home!’”

Hamsik has made 501 appearances for Napoli in all competitions and has scored 120 goals with 110 assists.
