Following interest from China, Marko Arnautovic has submitted a transfer request as the Austrian international looks to seek a move away from West Ham United.
The former Internazionale man attempted to make a move to China this January. However, the Hammers held firm and Arnautovic concluded the season with the London outfit. However, the striker is now keen on ending his time at the London Stadium.
He has already informed the club that he wants to leave after receiving a lucrative offer from an unnamed Chinese Super League club.
According to Sky Sports, Arnautovic is hell-bent on leaving the club and would even consider going on strike if his demands aren’t met.
While he extended his contract only in January, it appears that the Austrian international is no more willing to stay in England. This is definitely going to put Manuel Pellegrini in quite a pickle.
The club hasn’t brought any strikers so far this summer. Maxi Gomez of Celta Vigo has been linked with a move to London Stadium but nothing has been confirmed so far.
The club is also looking at West Brom’s Salomon Rondon who could adequately replace the likes of Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez. The duo wasn’t given contract extensions.
Javier Hernandez on the other hand, is also looking to leave England this summer which means that the Hammers are without a recognized striker ahead of preseason.
And indeed if Marko Arnautovic gets his wish, West Ham will become very active in the transfer market in a bid to look for a striker.
The fans of the club weren’t pleased with the player when the Chinese Super League saga started last season and they would definitely not be in a forgiving mood if the player does anything to force a move.
However, it is better for West Ham to allow the striker to leave and use the transfer fee received to invest in a striker who wants to excel in top level football.
